description This thesis explores the question of the matter-antimatter asymmetry in our current observable universe, which is the baryogenesis problem. We review the standard model and show that, despite the model being able to host conditions necessary for baryogenesis to occur, the baryon asymmetry value calculated is insufficient to explain the observed baryon asymmetry value from cosmic microwave background (CMB) analysis. We then visit various baryogenesis models and describe one of the popular model of baryogenesis which is leptogenesis. Leptogenesis can potentially explain the small neutrino mass that is currently observed while postulating the existence of a massive neutrino that exists in the early universe which is postulated to create an excess of leptons over antileptons and gets partially converted into baryons and antibaryons via sphaleron transition. Various leptogenesis models will be visited and we will show that the model that incorporate Grand Unified Theory (GUT) embedded in a higher group representation, in our case the SO(10) group, can be the most viable model to explain leptogenesis due to the rich sources of baryon (and lepton) number violation and CP violation, as well as the subgroups that it can break down into via spontaneous symmetry breaking, hence also automatically incorporating other models of leptogenesis as well, espescially the left-right symmetric model (LRSM) of leptogenesis.
