description | This report investigates the different positioning methodologies available in current technology while focusing on cellular system positioning. The center of interest here is to stimulate localization using only Long-Term Evolution (LTE) system that allows User Equipment (UE) to retrieve its position without the aid of Global Navigation Satellite System. Current methodologies of GNSS and Assisted Global Navigation Satellite System require line of sight to provide accurate positioning which make them unreliable under certain environmental factors and geographical location of a User Equipment (UE). The methodologies for positioning using LTE that will be discussed here are A-GNSS, Enhanced Cell ID (ECID) and Observed Time Difference of Arrival where poor line of sight can be compensated for localization. |
