description Pore water pressure monitoring is an important aspect in the context of geotechnical engineering. Although conventional piezometers are accurate and robust, they have some shortcomings in the practical application such as prone to electromagnetic interference, labour intensive and time consuming. This report introduces the development of a new type of piezometer utilizing the Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) sensor technology, which overcomes the limitations of conventional piezometers with simple structure and low cost. The design considerations and working principle of the FBG based piezometer are also discussed in the report. Piezometer prototypes are developed, tested and analysed based on the experimental results. This report also involves the finalizing phase of the development of the FBG based inclinometer from previous works, which includes the durability testing and the finalized design of the proposed inclinometer for mass production.
