description This final year project deals with the free vibration analysis of thin-walled cylinder tube and thin-walled cylindrical tanks by utilising the Finite Element Analysis software, ANSYS Mechanical APDL version 19.2. In the initial phase, the convergence test is conducted to determine the optimal mesh density which will yield convergence results yet requires minimal computation time. Subsequently, the different modes of vibration are analysed to filter out the ones with similar mode shape or modal frequency and then shortlisted to gather more comprehensive and consistent data tables. In the second phase, free vibration analyses are conducted on thin-walled cylinder tube under zero internal pressure and increasing internal pressure based on the optimal mesh density determined and the modes of vibration shortlisted in the initial phase. The material properties, such as Young's Modulus and density, and geometry properties, such as the radius and length, are also changed to observe the effects of such properties on the natural frequencies. In the final phase, free vibration analysis is conducted on a thin-walled cylindrical tank under increasing internal pressure based on the optimal mesh density determined and the modes of vibration shortlisted in the initial phase. The results obtained from all the simulations are presented in tables and plotted in graphs for further analyses and discussions.
