1949年，中國大陸實現政權更迭，中國共產黨成為執政黨，新的國家政權在大陸建立；文學體制也因此發生巨大變化，新的政治、經濟、社會文化系統等多種因素以各種方式，開始強有力地參與到新文學體制的建構中，一個全新的文學格局開始形成。1949年7月2日，「中華全國第一次文藝工作者代表大會」召開。這次會議的一個直接成果就是在周恩來的提議下成立了全國性的文藝組織「中華全國文學藝術界聯合會」，而「文協」就是隨即成立的、下屬於「文聯」的一個重要組織機構。那麼為什麼要在當時成立「文聯」、「文協」？它們究竟是何種性質的組織？什麼樣的人可以加入？它們的功能是什麼？對其後中國作家的創作及文學的發展又產生了怎樣的重大影響...
