description This paper investigates the suitability of transaural reproduction using directional audio beams generated by parametric array in air to produce 3D sound through objective evaluation. The 3D sound performance is evaluated by using a binaural hearing model to estimate the relevant spatial cues. The reproduced spatial cues from the audio beam projection are compared to the cues from conventional loudspeakers and headphones. It is shown that audio beam projection is capable of retaining cues more closely than conventional loudspeakers. This suggests that transaural audio beam projection gives a better 3D perception performance than conventional loudspeaker and it is a viable means to reproduce 3D sound effects.
