Summary: | The development of Ambon Municipality as the capital of Maluku Province
serving as the center of local government, education, trading and service, has create
direct impact on the increasing and various trend of wastes.
This research aimed to evaluate the performance of the Ambon Municipality
Waste Management and its influencing factors. The spatial scope of this research
involved 50 Villages/Kelurahanbased on the RUTRK of Ambon Municipality. The
descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods were used in this research, with
normative standard and frequency distribution analysis technique. Stratified random
sampling method was adopted, in which the heterogeneous population was divided
into homogeneous groups based on waste production sources with total samples of
100 respondents.
Based on the results of study, the performance of waste management in
ambon by the normative standard is good enough, judging by the priority of service is
appropriate that junk commercial areas, markets, and the area already underserved
population that is above 50%. Waste management performance results based on the
public perception is quite good, but not fully subject to the satisfaction or community
expectations. This shows the performance of waste management is not fully effective.
In addition, factors that affect the performance of waste management, among others,
the number of personnel and limited infrastructure, transport operations are not
optimal, revenue from the levy low that need subsidies for operations, operating cost
are very limitied, the public has not fully support and waste management is still a lack
of action against violations of regulations on waste. It is recommended that the
government should extend the reachable waste service, provide the community with
more personnel, equipments and socialization on better waste management.
