description | The purpose of this study is to analyze the performance of export-import, competitiveness
and the factors that affect export-import of rice the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and
Vietnam. Type of data used secondary data of 1980-2009. To determine the fluctuation of
export-import trade were applied trend and trade specialization ratio. To find out the analysis
of competitiveness were run revealed comparative advantage (RCA) and accelaration ratio
(AR). To investigate the factors affecting the export and import used corecction error model
(ECM). Trends in the Philippines and Indonesia rice exports showed a decline while imports
both showed an increase and in the reimport stage. Trends in exports and imports Thailand
showed an increase and in the maturity stage. Vietnam export trend showed an increase and
imports trend showed a decline and in the maturity stage. Philippines and Indonesia have low
competitiveness of rice, while Thailand and Vietnam have high competitiveness but the
exports acceleration is low. Exports of the Philippines and Indonesia are influenced rice
export prices and the efficiency of input. Thailand's export affected by the availability per
capita and efficiency of input, while Vietnam's export is affected by availability per capita
and the exchange rate of US$ dollar against the dong. Philippine imports affected by prices of
imported rice and efficiency of input while Indonesia imports is affected by per capita
availability, import prices and efficiency of input. Thailand's imports are affected by import
prices and dummy AFTA while imports of Vietnam affected by the production, world rice
prices and real national income. AFTA are still not profitable for the member countries in the
rice trade. |
