Summary: | The aims of this study were 1) to analyze the role of communication of
farmers� member in communication network, to analyze the sources of innovation
information, 2) to analyze the influence of demographic and communication
behavioral characteristics on the preference of the information source of compost
innovation, 3) to analyze the influence of farmers� knowledge about composting
on the farmers� affection towards the innovation, and 4) to analyze the influence
of farmers� affection on the adoption of innovation. The respondents used in this
study were all members of Sido Rejo and Sido Mulyo groups in Bantul who had
already obtained information about the innovation of compost.
Method used in this research was conducted by census through interviews of the object of
research to obtain primary data. The role of communication of farmers� member
in communication network was analyzed by descriptive using sociogram method.
The influence of demographic and communication behavior characteristics on the
preference of the information source of compost innovation, the influence of
farmers� knowledge on the farmers� affection towards the innovation, the
influence of farmers� affection on the adoption of innovations were analyzed by
binomial logistic regression method. The results of the research showed that
opinion leaders in both groups were held by the leader of each group. Most
respondents from either Sido Rejo and Sido Mulyo group prefered the personal
information source. Farmers who had higher cosmopolitness level in Sido Rejo
group tended to prefer non-personal information sources (P<0.05). Farmers in
Sido Mulyo group who had higher category of knowledge tended to had positif
affection (P<0.05). Farmers in Sido Rejo group who had a high affection tended
to adopt innovation (P<0.05). The study came to a conclusion that farmers�
knowledge influenced the farmers� affection towards the innovation in Sido Mulyo
Group. Farmers� affection influenced the adoption of innovation in Sido Rejo
Group.
