Summary: | Discourse is the production base of power, legitimacy and hegemony of the
dominant class that produces things like ideas or knowledge containing reproduce
the ideology of the discourse, as well as in families, schools, workplaces, social
organization and activities of daily living, as well as in it is a lifestyle. The
process of hegemonic discourse lifestyle is one of the strategies of the dominant
class to do the politics of cultural imperialism. With an attractive and persuasive
language offered in the magazine, the political process to obtain justification of
cultural imperialism, because the magazine as an agent not only inform the
lifestyle of a particular culture but were able to define where the pattern of life
that is considered correct.
This study is based to unpack the meaning of lifestyle discourse is offered in
a USA magazine franchise into Indonesia, the CosmoGIRL! Indonesia, through
the fashion section of The CG! Look: Gaya Seleb and trend-oriented model as a
form of cultural imperialism of the west to eastern culture. By analyzing the CG!
Look: Gaya Seleb, it is seen anyone who has an interest in the news of the article
as well as the strategies of CosmoGirl! as agents of cultural imperialism.
By looking at text analysis, social cognition and social context in the analysis
of discourse by Van Dijk, can be seen that CosmoGirl! not only successful on the
recognition of the values that were introduced but also managed to control the
meaning defined above. Seen also that recognition, the introduction and adoption
of western lifestyles constitute an intent to control and direct as well as
constructing the lifestyle of the west is the need to be done as part of the process
of cultural imperialism
