phenomenon in sociolinguistic study. This study aims to describe a form of speech codes, a
form of code switching, the factors that led to the selection of the language code, and code
switching functions in a conversation in clothing shop Rahayu in Sambilegi Market
Yogyakarta. This study is a descriptive study using sociolinguistic approach. Research data
used is in the form of language units which have a form of words, phrases, or sentences in
conversation in the clothing shop Rahayu in Sambilegi Market. Methods of data collection
is done by using the method of observation, which is a technique called teknik simak libat
cakap, teknik simak bebas libat cakap, dan teknik sadap atau rekam (tapping or recording).
The results of this study come in form of speech codes, a form of code switching,
the factors that led to the selection of the language code, and code switching functions in a
conversation in the clothing shop Rahayu in Sambilegi Market. Codes utterance in a
conversation in a store selling clothing varied in its form. These codes consist of a tangible
language code, the code range of tangible and intangible level language code says. Code in
the form of a language consists of (1) BI, (2) BJ, (3) BS, and (4) BA. The intangible variety
code that can be distinguished are (1) formal variety, (2) the form of various kinds of
informal not standard Indonesian and nonstandard variety of Javanese, (3) kinds of slang,
and (4) compact type. The code in the form of the speech can be divided into three levels of
speech, namely (1) the level of utterance ngoko (familiar), (2) the level of utterance madya
(medium), and (3) the level of utterance krama (smooth).
Code switching in conversation in the clothing shop Rahayu in Sambilegi Market
can be divided into (1) code switching in form of language switch, (2) code switching in
form of language type, and (3) code switching in form of switching the level of utterance.
The form of code switching between languages are 1) code switching with basic BI,
namely: (a) over the language of BI to BJ, (b) over the language of BI to Bing, (c) over the
language of BI to the BS, (d ) over the language of BI to the BA, and 2) code switching
with BJ basis, namely: (a) over the language of the BI BJ, (b) translation from BJ to BA.
Code switching in some form of diversity, namely (1) standard variety / formal, (2) nonstandard
variety / range of Indonesia in the form of informal non-standard and nonstandard
Java variety, and (3) compact range. Code switching in the form of the speech, namely (1)
ngoko (familiar) and (2) intermediate (medium).
Factors affecting choice of language in a conversation in clothing shop Rahayu in
Sambilegi Market consists of (1) participants of utterance that engage in conversations that
include (A) of speakers, namely a) the regional or ethnic background, b) age, c) education,
and d) ability to speak, and (B) the partner of utterance, which are a) social status and b)
the degree of familiarity, and (C) the third participants of utterance, (2) The situation of
utterance that includes a) a formal situation and b) informal situation , (3) the purpose of
utterance that includes a) a representative, b) directive, c) expressive, d) commissive, and e)
the declaration, (4) the core of utterance, and (5) norms of utterance that are grouped into a)
the norm of solidarity, b ) harmony, and c) religious.
Code switching has several functions in a speech. Functions of code switching in
conversation at the clothing shop Rahayu in Sambilegi Market, namely (1) code switching
that functions as a joke, (2) code switching that functions as to assert a particular purpose,
(3) code switching that functions to indicate identity, (4 ) code switching that functions to
demonstrate self-expression, (5) code switching that functions to change the subject, (6)
code switching that functions to build an intimate, (7) code switching that functions as for
the ease of communication, (8) code switching that functions to assure, (9) code switching
that functions to flatter, and (10) code switching that functions for style. |
