| description | This study aims to examine the effect of family ownership on firm performance
moderated by the investment opportunity set and firm age. The population is all non-
financial companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange between 2006-2010.
Samples determined by purposive sampling method using the criteria, (1) the founder or
the family owns at least 5%, (2) there are two of the founding family members into the
ranks of commissioners and directors. Amount of the final sample used was 34
companies with 170 observation points, while the data analysis performed with
moderated regression analysis. Performance is measured by market performance the
performance by Tobins'q and with accounting by ROA.
The results showed support for the entrenchment argument that family
ownership and a significant negative effect on market performance, while the effect on
accounting performance is significantly positive trending. Furthermore, the study also
found that the investment opportunity set of family ownership moderate the relationship
with the firm performance. Family ownership that has the investment opportunity set
that showed higher growth opportunities in the future so as to improve company
performance. While the company's age is shown to increase the negative effect of family
ownership on firm performance. |
