Summary: | Translation is the process of transferring meaning from one language to
other language. In translation process, a translator will change the elements of
text such as words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. These changes are called
translation transformation. The transformation in translation can occur because
the different system and grammatical structure of source language and target
language. In addition, the different concepts of meaning and usage of sociocultural
terms also result in translation transformation. The translator also plays
role in translation transformation because translator is the key player in
translator process.
The analysis of translation transformation is conducted based on
descriptive qualitative method to English-Indonesian translation of a book
entitled �A Child Called It� authored by Dave Pelzer. The data collecting
technique is conducted based on content analysis, while the data analysis
technique is based on Spradley�s analysis model. The data analysis is then
presented in form of detailed explanation.
The data analysis indicates that translation transformation is divided into
two kinds: translation transformation of language convention and translation
transformation of cultural convention. Translation transformation of language
convention consists of addition, deletion, and meaning transformation.
Meanwhile, translation transformation of cultural convention consists of addition,
deletion, and meaning transformation. The various kinds of transformation have
different functions in text. In �A Child Called It�, the translation transformation
have functions as informative, emphasis, expressive, adaptive, and referential
function.
