Summary:The purpose of this research is to know aspect that effect jujur (belis) in marriage customs of Timor in District of Central Insana North Central Timor Regency. In addition, also to find out the legal consequences in the aspect of kindship posed if jujur (belis) owed. This research is the empirical legal research the researcher involved directly in the community to gain the primary data and also uses literary approach to find out the secondary data. The data were collected through interview and sample collection by purposive sampling. The subject of this research consists of 22 (twenty two) people: 2 traditional leaders, 5 people were relatives of men who never make a payment of jujur, 5 people were relative of women who had received payment of jujur, 5 husbands who ever did the marriage customs with a jujur payment, 5 wives who ever did the marriage customs with a jujur payment. Moreover, resource person from community leaders, government figures, and religious leaders. Results of the research were analyzed using qualitative method. Result of the research show that matters effecting the granting of jujur (belis) in the community of Timor are level of education, sosial status, wealth, and belis from the girl�s mother at the time of marriage. To determine the required belis the attitude of mutual understanding in order for consultation between the families on both parties went smoothly. Belis owed has the legal effect of husband and wife, property, and children born. Husband will serve for the family of his wife until belis is considered tobe paid off, wife has yet to be entered into the family of her husband�s relatives, dan children who are born able to use his father�s clan with the provisions will be repaid belis.
