Summary: | Khombouw is one of the works of art and cultural communities around the
area of Sentani Lake, precisely in Asei Village. Khombouw was originally created as
a symbol of gratitude for Asei Village community for the abundant natural wealth,
but in recent years due to economic interests, this work has been used commercially
to provide additional revenue for the maker. Although the carving handicraft business
khombouw not provide significant economic benefits to the economy of the family,
but they still persist to always make and sell. This study aims to determine the pattern
of development of bark carving in defending indigenous communities in Asei Vilage,
Jayapura Regency.
The qualitative approach used to understand the phenomenon of business
conducted khombouw sculpture Asei community, therefore this study is a qualitative
research. Indepth interviews are used to as a method of collecting data from
informants who have been determined, based on interviews conducted with interviuw
guide that has been prepared in advance or informants in this study were divided into
2 groups of informants to those who have a painting business and traditional leaders
khombouw the Institute of Indigenous and Head of the Tribe. Of the two groups,
selected two people from the Institute of Traditional and 5 people from the
community khombouw makers, as well as a chief. The main consideration the
selection of informants, basical of knowledge of history, culture and technique of
making khombouw. Thus the total informants were interviewed as many as 8. Data
analysis was conducted descriptively to describe the phenomenon of production
orientation of khombouw, by displaying the characteristics of production and
businesses and, in the form of the orientation of businesses khombouw informant
statements.
The analysis showed that two things can be inferred from the results of the
