Summary:Assumption of postpartum blues as a response that normally cause psychological distress has not been implemented properly. Although the cause of postpartum mental disorder has not fully understood, pain, fatigue due to poor sleep quality, anxiety about baby care skills, and changes in sleep patterns are factors that play roles as an early signal postpartum blues symptoms. This study aimed to determine the effect of sleep quality and sleep patterns, either individually (partially) or combination, to the postpartum blues in primiparas. The subjects are 45 primiparas taken from 3 public health center service area with inpatient services in Yogyakarta. Besides normal birthing, the mother and baby are healthy, baby�s age < 15 days, and mother�s age are 18 � 40 years is the criteria for the study subjects. The data were collected through three parameters, namely the sleep quality scale, sleep patterns scale, and postpartum blues scale. The collected data then analyzed using path analysis technique. Based on the hypothesis test it is concluded that the combination of sleep quality and sleep pattern effects the postpartum blues 57,5% (p < 0,000), sleep quality partially effects postpartum blues 41% (p < 0,01) and sleep pattern partially effects postpartum blues 33% (p < 0,05).
