Some of the rising problems from the development of coastal protection structure are the disturbance of convenience and aesthetical aspects of the sandy beach, the materials are not ecologicaly safe and relatively high cost. The disturbance of convenience and aesthetical aspects is caused by the emerging of the structure crest. Geotextile tube (geotube) as submerged breakwater is one of the alternative solution of the artificial sandy beach protection to prevent the erosion. Yet, technical information of the wave transmission on this structure is still limited. This research to fill the limitation of this information.
This research was conducted with 2D fisical model to find out influential
parameters and its relationship to the wave transmission. Model was made of
cloth similar to the real geotube and then filled with sand by way of varietying
structure height (hs) to the depth on the structure location (ds) (hs/ds : 0,72, 0,86, 0,90, 1,00). Likewise, to know the influence of the width of structure parameter (B), the width of model is varieted by defending the height of the structure. By varietying the period and the height of the wave upon the structure model that previously placed in the flume, the researcher observed and measured the height of the wave in front of and behind the structure.
Result of the research indicates that the wave transmission on this
structure was influenced by the structure height as structure parameter (hs/ds) and high and period of the wave as the wave parameters (H0/gT2 atau Hi/L). By using multi parameter regression is resulted formula of wave transmission.
The width parameter in this research does not really influence to the wave transmission due to the spread of sand behind the structure. Transmission coefficient indicate the same data trend with the formula developed by Dean � Dalrymple. The difference between two graphics is caused more by dissipation due to the breaking wave. |
