Zirconia (ZrO2) was added to the bone filler material to enhance radiopacitythat can be shownthrough the X-ray imaging The purpose of this study was to determine the radiopacity and radiodensity effect of adding zirconia to the hydroxyapatite.
The main materialof this study are: HA thatsynthesized from Calcite (PT Omya, Mojokerto, Surabaya) and 3 mol% yttrium-oxide partially stabilized zirconia (Y-PSZ). Research subjectsare24 cylindrical zirconia hydroxyapatite composite thatdivided into 4 groups (HA + zirconia0%, 30%, 40%, and 50%). Radiopacity and radiodensity measurement using Image J software (Research Services Branch, National Institute of Mental Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA). Statistical analysis used was Kruskal-Wallis Test and One-way Anova.
Results of this study showed that the addition of zirconia on hydroxyapatite with various concentrations have effects on radiopacity(p <0.05) and there are significant differences in the concentration of the addition of zirconia into the hydroxyapatite on radiodensity(p <0.05). The conclusion of this study is that there is radiopacity and radiodensity enhancement on the concentration addition of zirconia (30%, 40%, and 50%) on hydroxyapatite |
