| Summary: | This research is aimed to describe theme and rheme constructions in the
headlines of daily newspapers that has been published in Egypt between the period of
August 2011 until November 2011. It was the period before Egyptian doing their first
parlement elections after the offensive of Hosni Mubarak�regime and tyranny. The
objectives of study are Al-Ahra>m Daily Newspaper that had been published in Egypt
since 1875.
This work finds the grammatical units that applied in the headlines of Al-
Ahra>m Daily Newspaper. Then, the majority of patterns were analyzed based on the
information focus constructions, they are theme and rheme. At the end, theme of
headlines will be analyzed based on the thematic progession patterns.
The result of data analysis shows that jumlah �ismiyyah is the most dominant
pattern in the headlines of Egyptian Newspapers, except in the headlines using the
imperative sentence. And the result of analysis theme and rheme construction in the
headlines shows that both of theme and rheme were found in the headlines with
verbal predicate and non verbal predicate. Finally, the thematic progession patterns
can be found in the texts of Egyptian Newspapers, those patterns such as (1) the
constant theme pattern, (2) the linear theme pattern, (3) the split rheme pattern, and
(4) derived themes.
