Summary: | Research of misalignment between structure and strategy at PT Armada
Johnson Controls (AJC) is a problem solving case study that is aimed to identify
factors that causing strategy misalignment in the organization. AJC business
growth followed by mass employees recruitment from 366 employees in 2009
becoming 836 employees in 2012 causing internal misalignment. AJCs human
resources that were formed by JV (joint venture) in 2008 between PT Armada
APM Auto part (local partner) and Johnson Controls Inc (global company form
USA) were not ready to support the company growth, in term of work culture,
facility, work capability and skills. This problem was indicated by low result of
Global Employee Survey that was conducted in 2011, especially the survey result
of employee engagement and leadership effectiveness, both gained score 41% and
44%. Low score of employee engagement indicates that only 41% employees who
are motivated and have the willingness to work hard for advancement of the
company. This condition will impact on the successful and effectiveness of
strategy implementation in the future, because no matter how good the strategy is ,
it will not work effectively without supporting of the engaged and motivated
employees. The company need to identify external and internal factors that give
contribution to the strategy misalignment by using the Five Force Analysis and
Value Chain Analysis from Michael E Porter, Industry Attractiveness Matrix from
GE/Mc Kinsey, completeness of strategy formulation from Hambrick and also
others factors that give contribution the successful strategy implementation in PT
AJC.
