description | The purpose of this research is to know the influence of the current in the process of nickel, hardchromium, and nickel-hard chrome platting to the physics and mechanical features of stainless steel martensitick (AISI 410) surface. Nickel-hard chrome is got from the specimen that is covered by nickelplatting before, and then it is continued by the hard-chrome platting. The physics and mechanical features that are learnt consists of the micro structure, the thick of the layer, the mild, the corrosion rate, and the wear rate before and after the plating. The variety the current that is used are 1,25; 1,5; and 1,75 ampere on the voltage 6 Volt and 30 minutes constant plating. Nickel platting is done in the electrolyte solution that is watt’s bath with 150 gr/l NiSO4, 30 gr/l NH4Cl, 30 gr/l H3BO3 on the temperature of 25-350C, pH around 4-6, air agitation and nickel anode. The chromium platting process uses Pb (lead) and Sn (antimony) anode in the 300 gr/l CrO3, 3gr/l H2SO4 electrolyte solution on the temperature of 40-55oC, pH around 0,4-0,5, and air agitation. The thick of the layer can be known by optic microscope, the hardness of the surface by the Micro Vickers experiment on the mass of 25 gr, the corrosion rate is found by three cells electrode potensio on the solution of 0,9% NaCl, and the wear rate can be known by Ogoshi High Speed Universal Wear Testing Machine. The result of this research shows that the thick of the layer and the hardness increase when the current increases. The thick of nickel layers that is got is bigger than the chromium layer on the same plating duration and the current. The highest hardness is on the current of 1,75 ampere with 30 minutes plating or nickel, chromium, nickel-hard chromium layers in consecutively are 364, 464, 534 VHN0,025 with the thick of the layers in consecutively 51, 39 and 90 mm. The lowest corrosion rate on the current of 1,75 ampere that is produced by the nickel, chromium, nickel-hard chromium in consecutively are 0,0017; 0,0077; 0,0231 mm/year.While the lowest wear rate from the nickel, chromium, nickel-hard chromium layers in consecutively are 5,32E-09; 3,943E-09 and 3,52E-09 mm3/kgmm. |
