Description
Summary:The research describes about community preparedness in Anticipating Sinabung Eruption Disaster, local factors related to communities preparedness in around Sinabung Volcano, and lesson learned how Japan increase community preparedness and disaster risk reduction after volcanic eruption. The research found that generally communities in around Sinabung have understood about the hazards and impacts of the Sinabung eruption, but limited understanding of community and limited information cause most of communities did not understand about early warning system and destination of evacuation site in emergency. The existence of community understanding that everything related to the need of the community while in refugee camp will be provided by the Government being the cause they didnt prepare themselves in emergency. Whereas the activities implemented to improve community preparedness in facing Sinabung eruption disaster only involved the village or district representatives, therefore it cause lack of community participation involved in activities related to community preparedness. Actually there is kinship relation among the Karo community that can be used as capital in improving of community preparedness and also there are several activities can be considered and applied in Sinabung to increase community preparedness and to reduce impact of Sinabung eruption based on comparative studies obtained from Aso and Sakurajima like constructing sign for evacuation and constructing concrete shelter in some points. The research recommends conducting comprehensive and integrated dissemination or socialization and simulation or drill to the community who were in the disaster-prone areas, implementing physical construction to reduce the impact of Sinabung eruption disaster, improving monitoring facilities, observation and communications, and increasing capacity of the local government in disaster management.
