Summary: | Immediate denture is a denture made before revoked the natural teeth, and inserted
immediately after tooth extraction. The advantage of using immediate denture are spared the
discomfort and worried looks toothless, as a bandage, splint to control the bleeding, protect
the wound from trauma due to food impaction or tooth antagonist, prevents oral fluids and
food particles enter the tooth socket and protect the blood clots thus speeding up the healing
process. Chitosan oligomers are natural biopolymers that have the ability as a wound healing
agent. The research objective was to determine the effect of chitosan oligomers on the density
of macrophages in the wound healing process in denture immediate.
The study was conducted on 20 Sprague Dawley rats. Subjects were divided into 2
groups: the treatment group and the control group. The treatment group was given a topical
application on wounds revocation using chitosan oligomers 1% then mounted the acrylic
plate, a control group was not given the application of 1% chitosan oligomers directly
mounted the acrylic plate. Thiming of application of chitosan oligomers was 36 hours, after
that the histological preparation was made. Observations by binocular microscope was
performed to calculate the number of macrophages in the preparations and the data were
analyzed by t-test.
The results showed a significant difference between the control group and the group
treated with chitosan oligomers (p < 0,05). Research conclusion was chitosan oligomers
increase the density of macrophages in the wound healing process in denture immediate.
