Summary: | This research aims at: (1) determining the erosion hazard and the permissible
erosion, (2) studying land ability and suitability of maize agricultural in watershed of
Alo, (3) analize the socio economy and cultural community on land management in
the watershed of Alo, (4) determining the priority for land conservation ecological
spatial of maize agricultural land in watershed Alo.
The research is done in 43 units of cultivation spread over six villages:
Datahu, Iloponu, Buhu, Isimu Utara, Labanu, dan Motilango. Method used to
evaluate the land is matching method using software of LCLP (Land Classification
and Landuse Planning). The classification of land ability is done by matching data of
land characteristics with criteria of ability class of land which is based on weight
factors, while classification of land suitability is done by matching data of land
characteristics with criteria of land suitability. Study on the impact of actual use of
land on the erosion and land degradation is derived from comparison between the
value of erosion rate (A) and the value of tolerable soil erosion (T), so that the level
of erosion hazard and tolerated level of erosion become determinant factors in setting
up conservation effort. The study on the land cultivation socio economy condition of
local people is analysed descriptively. This research also analyzed the zonation of
watershed and local wisdom for integrated management of watershed. The
determination of the guidelines of are al function is done based on the rate of surface
erosion, tolerated level of erosion and the hazar level of erosion. The determination of
conservation priority is based on ability class of land and land suitability, erosion
hazard degree and maize productivity.
The research finding shows that the pattern of land ability distribution and
land suitability are influenced by biogeophysical condition of land in watershed. The
use of actual land is one of main causes of the severe surface erosion. Land capability
classes VII and land suitability classes S1 and S2 are not found in the watershed Alo
The cultivation of maize plant in Alo Watershed is influenced by the socioeconomy
factor of the people living there. The contribution of income derived from maize
farming shows the level of dependence of people on the maize farming. This
indicates the trend of farmers to open new lands for maize farming. Based on the
spread of the level of erosion, land ability, land suitabilty, and the socioeconomy
factor of the society Alo watershed the maize is not suitable with most of the land
ability, and land suitability whcih needs conservation efforts and priority of
conservation which must be suitable with characterisrics of land biophysic, land
ability, land suitability and socioeconomy factors of the society using ecological
spasio approach in Alo Watershed.
