Indonesia is a nation which has multiethnic, tradition, religion and language,
always in the experience of violence based on the friction on different
cultures. the multiple cultures as the benediction constructing a
nation state, a basis of expectation and freedom. In other side, the multi
background culture appears the different areas resulting conflict. This
research wants to analyze the condition of society in a town in coastal Java,
which has multiethnic, religion and culture polarization. In Lasem, Central
Java, the multicultural phenomena is a dynamic condition among Chinese,
Javanese pribumi and santri. On the ransformation of politic, on 1998, the
violence on Chinese people widely occurred at Jakarta, Solo and Semarang. In
Lasem, the violence is a threat on the crisis situation of 1998, but can vague
on harmony action based on society.
