| description | This research aims to expose Ali Ahmad Bakatsir�s novel published in
1944, Sallam�h al-Q�s (SA). While it used genetic structuralism proposed by
Lucien Goldmann, the expression of world view is analyzed through the novel�s
textual structure based on dialectical method. Such method works based on
reciprocal concept between the world view and textual structure. Hence, the
research starts from textual structure exposure together with the world view.
The world view found in the novel reflects human�s consciousness and
attempts seeking better values. The view reflected in the novel is school of
thought of Jabariyah which is greatly influenced by Qadariyah. Such a school of
thought is a mixed Qadariyah and Jabariyah taking the middle ground between the
two to balance the life of this world and the Hereafter. Each life is getting a
balanced portion.
Based on formulation of the novel�s world view, it is noted that its textual
structure reflects the novel�s world view, which is centered on Abdurrahman and
his thoughts, remarks, or acts.
Abdurrahman, a environmentally degraded hero, is understood from his
relation with other figures and objects as well as binary opposition within the
novel. The novel�s structure is linked to socio-cultural circumstances of Arab
society of Mecca and Medina during Umayya dynasty, in the post-Umar ibn
Abdul Aziz, namely Yazid ibn Abdul Malik. Such situation points to Bakatsir�s
experience as an author whose novel reveals the dynamic lives in Mecca and
Medina laden with exemplary mannerism such as The Prophet Muhammad�s
behaviour stressing a balance between the world and the hereafter life.
Meanwhile, a social group giving great influence to Bakatsir is Hasan al-
Banna�s circle which comprises assorted people, like farmers, teachers, doctors,
engineers, and lawyers. The group attempts to open people�s mind, particularly
Muslims, concerning the unity of Muslims and avoid fruitless debates that might
lead to friction among Muslims. |
