mass and microarchitectural deterioration of bone tissue, with a consequent
increase in bone fragility and susceptibility to fracture. Perimenopause and
postmenopause women had greater risk to suffering osteoporosis as a result of
estrogen deficiency. The dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) of lumbar
spine and pelvic bone is a gold standart for diagnose osteoporosis by measure
bone mineral density (BMD), but had limited availability in hospitals.
The one of biochemical markers of bone turnover to measure bone mass
deterioration is procollagen type I N-terminal propeptide (PINP). The PINP has
better diagnostic validity than other biochemical markers of bone turnover
because of temperature stability and not affected by elongation time of transport
and storage.The aim of this study is to find out the relationship between the PINP
serum level and deterioration of bone mass density which measured by DEXA
method in perimenopause and postmenopause women.
This is a cross-sectional study. The subject are women more than 45 years
old, both perimenopause and postmenopause. The PINP serum measured by
electrochemiluminescence immunoassay method. The DEXA method is used for
measure BMD.
A significant correlation between the PINP serum�s level and status of
bone mineral density will run the chance of use of PINP as a cheaper biochemical
marker of bone turnover in osteoporosis management. |
