Description
Summary:This research analyzes French nominalization applying general morphology approach. The researcher was interested to conduct this research since the French word formation always involves declination and conjugation form adjustment. This research does not only describe the rules of nominalization, but also explain some possible difficulties found by Indonesian learners. This research is a descriptive qualitative research using books, dictionaries and other written sources as the data sources. This research was conducted through three phases, those are the provision of data, data analysis and data presentation. The issues discussed in this research are the rule of adjective, verb, adverb, and numeral nominalization, the morphophonemic process, the grammatical meaning of French nominalization, and also some difficulties found by the Indonesian learner in learning French nominalization. The result of this research indicates that French nominalization can be created through suffixation and conversion processes. Nominalization through suffixation can occur to adjective and verb, otherwise nominalization through conversion can occur to adjective, verb, adverb, and numeral. The rule of adjective and verb nominalization is {adjective/ verb} + {suffix} Noun}, and the rule of adjective, verb, adverb, and numeral nominalization through conversion process is {adjective/ verb/ adverb/ numeral} + {} Noun}. The allomorphs are found from suffix {ité}, {-ance}, { isme}, {-ement}, {-age}, {-tion}, and {-ure}. The grammatical meanings of noun created from adjective nominalization are noun explaining action, noun explaining the result of the action, noun explaining the agent of the action, noun describing situation, noun explaining quality, and noun explaining principle, doctrine, belief or ideology. The grammatical meanings of noun created from verb nominalization are noun explaining action, noun explaining the result of the action, noun explaining the agent of the action, and noun explaining instrument and place to do the action. The grammatical meaning of noun created from adverb nominalization is noun describing situation. The grammatical meaning of noun created from numeral nominalization is describing number or quantity as mentioned on their base forms. The possible difficulties found by Indonesian learners in learning French nominalization are in understanding and applying the rules and morphophonemic.
