description | The preparation and characterization of heat insulator materials based
bioasphalt has been investigated. Bioasphalt was made from modification of
coconut shell tar with coconut shell charcoal powder (SATK) and coconut shell
powder (STK). To increase the hardness of coconut shell tar, variation of SATK
and STK particle size was applied. The particle size of STK and SATK were
varied into 60, 100, 150, 200, and 250 mesh. The variation of STK were mixed
with tar at weight ratio of 70:30 (tar : STK), as well as SATK with the ratio of 55:
45 (tar : SATK). The mixtures were then tested for penetration (hardness)
according to RSNI 06-2456-1991. The mixtures of tar-SATK and tar-STK that
have the lowest penetration value (the highest hardness) were mixed with tar and
latex compound to make heat insulator material. The compositions of heat
insulator material were SATK and STK with percent compositions of (30:00,
25:05, 20:10, 15:15, 10:20, 05:25, and 00:30)%, 55% tar and 15% latex
compound of the total mass. The heat insulator material (PP-3000, PP-2505, PP2010,
PP-1515, PP-1020, PP-0525 and PP-0030) were tested for thermal
conductivity, penetration, density, porosity (total bulk volume), and surface
morphology.
The results showed that the STK 100 mesh with penetration values 82.2
and SATK 200 mesh with penetration value 61.4 accomplished the specifications
of asphalt 60/70. The characterization results showed that heat insulator material
PP-0030 has the best heat insulator properties with thermal conductivity from
0.045 to 0.0997 W/mK, thermal resistance up to 115oC, 57.6 pen, density 1.0534g/cm3
, and porosity 123.21%. |
