Summary: | This research aims to analyze the reasons that motivates North Korea to
continue to develop nuclear amid domestic and international pressure issues
affected the country. North Korea developed nuclear in the early 1960s with the
assistance of the Soviet Union. In the 1980s, North Korea began developing its
own nuclear. In the post Cold War, North Korea has suffered worsening economic
conditions caused by the defeat of the Soviet Union that have an impact on the
cessation of energy aid from the Soviet Union and China. This resulted in a
variety of domestic issues such as the inability of the state to run the industry
resulting in poverty and hunger. This situation was exacerbated by a series of
natural disasters that hit North Korea. But that did not lessen his ambition to
continue to develop nuclear weapons. Until the year 2006 and 2009 the UN
Security Council passed Resolution to North Korea following the nuclear test
conducted by the state. This resolution contains the prohibition of nuclear
development, the prohibition of delivery of materials - both nuclear materials
from North Korea and towards North Korea, coupled with economic sanctions
and an arms embargo. The resolution was not able to deter North Korea in
possession of nuclear because until now North Korea does not show seriousness
its nuclear program. By using the theory of Three Models of Search A Bomb and
the concept of nuclear strategy, this research found that the reason North Korea
was developing nuclear power as an antidote / deterrence, regime stability, and the
implementation of the Juche ideology and Shongun Chongchi (military-first) were
adopted. In addition, nuclear development program is also part of a strategy as a
bargaining tool in the diplomatic phase for achieving the interests of North Korea.
