industry. That also happens to Small and Medium Enterprises (SME�s) as part of
industry. Choice of location of economic activities is very diverse, but there are
limitations of economic activities especially SME�s actors in determining the
location of their business activities. SME�s has unique characteristics with a
myriad of problems and advantages. Distribution of SME�s in Pangkalpinang city
is an interesting phenomenon to observe. This is related to the development of
spatial pattern of Pangkalpinang city as well as the discourse to create a special
area dedicated to SMEs by the Pangkalpinang Government.
Various theories related to the location of economic activity have been
developed, but there is not one single theory that can comprehensively answer
regarding the choice of location so that the combination of location theory and
the theory of behavior is a method used to gain a comprehensive understanding of
the choice of location of SMEs. Combination of a map of SME�s location with
maps of spatial structure elements overlay analyses and questionnaire is critical
method to address the characteristic of SME�s locations. The existence of city
center with numerous facilities and advantage becomes a magnet for SME�s to
locate relatively close to this area. This resulted to the pattern of SME�s location,
which tend to be centered and clustering. Road network, center of activities,
density and spatial pattern as element of internal city structure contribute to the
choice of SME�s location. Choice of SME�s location is also influenced by the
scale of SME�s. Based on the preference of SME�s owners, there are some factors
influencing SME�s location in example: personal interest, market, utility and land
availability. |
