| Summary: | Words have regular patterns namely collocation. The focus under the
study was the anticipatory it subject construction. The present study aimed at
exaplaining the collocation by showing how a different lexical element influences
the other lexical choice and the meaning of the construction.
The data were obtained from phrasesinenglish.org which incorporates
data from the second edition of British National Corpus in which searches were
conducted to identify how link verbs, modals, modifiers and complements cooccur
with one another. The analysis showed that the various collocations could
have different constructions along with the meaning. Furthermore, it showed that
a schematic construction of the subject provides the variability in idiomaticity. |
