conservation efforts to save the habitat. One of the conservation efforts that can be
done is to examine the characteristics of turtle nesting habitat. The study have
been did from June-November 2012 and divided into four stations, they are Trisik
Beach, Bugel Peni Beach, Glagah Beach and Congot Beach. Data obtained
through field surveys with purposive sampling method and in-depth-interviews
with the surrounding community. Data taken in the form of nesting habitat and
nest characteristics, nest distribution, and the type of land turtle. The number of
nests counted by the method of nesting count and marked the location with a GPS
then be analyzed to map the distribution of nesting turtle nests. Identify the type
of turtle landing done by observation traces or tracks left and morphological
observations on the hatchlings that hatched in each nest. Based on these
observations, turtle nesting habitat is a sloping beach with a slope ranging from
11o-19o vegetation contained such as Spinifex littoralis and Pandanus tectorius.
The kind of sea turtle that landing and laying egg in Kulon Progo coastal district
are Lepidochelys olivacea and Chelonia mydas. Olive ridle turtle most often found
cracked Trisik Beach. Egg collection and the development of coastal areas is a
threat to their survival. This can be mitigated by monitoring and provision of
nesting habitat conservation efforts. |
