Indonesia has a lot of geothermal hot spring which can be used to operate absorption refrigeration system, sometimes in a geothermal site there are some hot spring in high temperature but low of flow rate, but in the other side there is another hot spring in medium temperature and lot of flow rate. Therefore in this research the experiment is conducting by using two hot water sources in different temperature, the secondary hot water sources in medium temperature is used to heat the solution preheater and the primary hot water sources in high temperature is used to heat the generator. In this research the result is compared between the system with solution preheater utilization and without solution preheater utilization.
This experiment is using water and lithium bromide in 48% concentration as refrigerant and absorbent pair. The primary hot water source temperature variation between 75oC � 85oC, and the secondary hot water sources has temperature variation between 55oC � 70oC, the secondary hot water source is used to heat up the weak solution which pass through a single pass annulus heat exchanger which is functioning as solution preheater, this experiment is using three variation of solution preheater area 0.0238m2, 0.0298m2 and 0.0358m2. The experiment is focusing on the variations of solution preheater utilization concerning to the performance of generator, solution preheater and condenser until the production of refrigerant from condenser. And the analysis of evaporator and absorber performances is doing by taking several assumptions.
The result shows that solution preheater utilization can increasing the refrigerant flow rate (mref) from generator, the experiment at 65oC and 70oC solution preheater hot water inlet temperature shows significant increasing in refrigerant production as much 19-35 percent. The increase of refrigerant flow rate affected the increasing performance of evaporator, generator, condenser and absorber. But then the coefficient of performance (COP) from the experiment which uses solution preheater is lower than the experiment without solution preheater utilization. |
