Summary: | Community structure is a form of an array of vegetation that can be used
to determinate vertical and horizontal stratification. This study aims to determine
species diversity and community structure of mangrove vegetation in coastal areas
Subdistrict Pangkalan Susu District Langkat.
The research was conducted in November 2012 - March 2013. The
method used for the measurement of mangrove vegetation in this research
a combination method and line method checkered line. The mangrove vegetation
data was collected by systematic sampling with a sampling intensity of 0.4%.
Analysis of the data used in this research is diversity index, distribution pattern
(spatial distribution), analysis of the vertical structure of the software Sexi-Fs.
The results showed that 16 true mangrove species from 8 families which
are Avicennia marina, Avicennia officinalis , Sonneratia alba, Sonneratia ovata,
Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora stylosa, Bruguiera
sexangula, Bruguiera cylindrica, Ceriops tagal, Ceriops decandra, Lumnitzera
littorea, Excoecaria agallocha, Nypa fruticans, Xylocarpus granatum, Acanthus
ilicifolius. Diversity index for seedling level there are 4,44 which sapling level
there are 3,99 and tree level there are 2,49. There are two distribution pattern
which uniform and clumped pattern. Vertical Structure of mangrove forests in the
coastal area has a strata dominated by Rhizophora apiculata.
