Summary: | The research was conducted in the province of South Kalimantan -
Indonesia. The phenomena that related with the rise of coal mining in South
Kalimantan causing much impact by mining operations. This research has a
purpose to examine the effect of coal mining on regional development, in terms of
both economic and social. This researh used secondary data including such as the
number of coal mining production, the area affected, and the number of coal
mining companies. While data-regional development refers to the Wellbeing
Composite Index (WCI) in the form of the Human Development Index (HDI),
Gini index, Gender Development Index (GDI), and government effectiveness are
assessed from South Kalimantan provincial government performance in
implementing development programs. The analysis that used is Structural
Equation Modeling (SEM) with SPSS AMOS for calculation analysis. The result
analysis showed that coal mining has a significant impact on the regional
development, but causing adverse effect on the performance of the government.
