Summary: | Development of Islamic rural bank or Bank Pembiayaan Rakyat Syariah
(BPRS) in recent years showed a rapid growth. In 2009, total Islamic rural bank in
Indonesia has more than 2.883 employees, and 209 offices. Despite showing a good
performance, Islamic rural bank has to bear with several challenges. One of the major
challenges is the issue of bank soundness level that very low related to high credit
risk, and bad liquidity management.
The aim of this research is to compare state-own rural Islamic bank and
private Islamic bank in term of financial performance and soundness. The state-own
rural Islamic Bank or BPRS Pemerintah Kota Bekasi back by the Bekasi state
government capital (Pemerintah Daerah Bekasi) while BPRS Harta Insan Karimah
Bekasi back by private equity.
This research use CAMEL method with assessing the factors of rating of the
bank through capital ratio (equity), asset (asset quality), management (the
management), earnings (income), and liquidity (liquidity).
The result, BPRS Harta Insan Karimah has higher soundness level compared
with BPRS Pemerintah Kota Bekasi because it maintains liquidity stability and
having a good credit risk management.
