Description
Summary:Background : blood transfusion basically is transferred blood component from donor to resipient, which can maintenance homeostatic condition but it can also be potentially harm with several complications. Blood transfusion must be performed based on exact indication. Objective: to compare the transfusion reaction among patients that transfused during emergency with elective surgery. Methods : data were collected by cross sectional method and analyzed by independent T-test, chi-square and logistic regression with 95% CI and p<0,05. The study used medical record from January to Desember 2009 and observed data from January-Mei 2009. Result : it showed significancy of transfusion reaction either type of operation or transferred blood component (P<0,01). Transfusion reactions are more frequent in emergency surgery (54,9%) compared with elective surgery (30,5%). Based on type of blood component the transfusion reaction is more frequent in WB (84,9%) compared with PRC (25,1%) and FFP (25%). Type of operation and blood component involve in risk factor, the main factor of both is type of blood component (P<0,01). Blood component that transferred during surgery is based on hemoglobin correction formula, although there are differences between transfused blood and corrected formula result but no significance different (p>O,05, p=O,863). Conclusion: Transfusion reaction is more frequent in emergency surgery than elective surgery, whole blood (WB) also more frequent than Packed Red Cell (PRC). The transferred blood is based on hemoglobin correction formula.
