Description
Summary:High myopia may cause premature degeneration of the retinal cells, including ganglion cells, the nerve fibre layer and ultimately impaired macular function. One of the clinical manifestion of premature degeneration of retinal cells is prolonged pupil cycle time (PCT). This study is aimed to investigate whether patients with high myopia had different PCT than those with emetropia. This was a descriptive analytic study recruiting all patients who visited refractive clinics at Dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta and who were confirmed as high myopia or emetropia. Assessment of PCT was performed manually using slit lamp and stopwatch by a single observer, and expressed as milliseconds (ms). There were 60 patients included in this study (30 emetropia and 30 high myopia). The mean PCT in patients with high myopia was significantly longer than those with emetropia (1214.8 ± 252.023 ms vs. 971.37 ± 111.73 ms
