description It has been estimated more than 6 of 1000 live births suffer from permanent hearing loss at birth or the neonatal period and at least 90% are in developing countries. Hearing loss need to diagnose as early as possible because of the intervention should be carried out before the age of 6 months. Risk factors for hearing loss in neonates are still not clear. The objective of this study was to determine the risk factors of hearing loss in neonates. This was a case control study with consecutive sampling. This study included neonates who admitted to Perinatology ward at Sanglah Hospital from 1 April 2012 until 28 February 2013. During the period, the use of aminoglycoside therapy was the most exposure obtained in the case group (70%) and in all study subjects (30%). Multivariate analysis showed the use of aminoglycoside 14 days was significant risk factor associated with hearing loss with OR 2.7 (95% CI 1.0
