Summary: | Background: The annual National Examination tests students�s achievement in their education process. The ever rising graduation standard has made psychological burden among students, which often makes their motivation to study declines. Several researches showed that psychological health education program is useful to improve one�s motivation. Therefore Mental Health Program at School is needed to improve student�s learning motivation toward national examination.
Objective: The aim of this research was to discover the effect of providing Mental Health Program at School to learning motivation of Grade VI Elementary Students toward National Examination in Seyegan, Sleman, Yogyakarta.
Methods: The research was an experimental study with pretest-posttest control group design. The respondents were 114 Grade VI elementary students, divided into 57 students for intervention group and 57 students for control group. Academic Self Regulation Questionnaire was used to measure their learning motivation.
Result: There were increasing mean score from pre test to post test in intervention group with p=0.000 (p<0.05), resulting in a significant difference. In the control group, the mean for learning motivation experienced a slight declination with p=0.127 (p>0.05), there were no significant difference. In addition, there were significant differences of mean score between intervention and control group with p=0.000 (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The provision of Mental Health Program at School is effective to improve the learning motivation of elementary school students toward National Examination in Seyegan, Sleman with p=0.000 (p<0.05).
