Summary: | Background: In preparing students to face menarche, elementary school teachers should be educated about menarche. Motivation is one factor that influences teachers� participation in reproductive health education. A highly motivated health education teacher is expected to improve their achieved knowledge so that they can provide menarche education to their female students.
Objectives: To discover the relationship between the motivation of the participating teachers and their knowledge to prepare female students to deal with menarche in elementary schools in Jetis district, Yogyakarta
Methods: This is a descriptive study with a cross sectional correlation. The research took place in 18 primary schools of Jetis District Yogyakarta in July 2012. The research used total sampling technique. From 44 teachers in the entire district Jetis, 30 respondents met the inclusion criteria, consisting of 22 teachers and 8 fifth grade Physical Education and Sports teacher. The instrument used is the modified motivation questionnaire of Ismahmudi (2007) and modified knowledge questionnaires of Utami (2010), Mintarsih (2007), Fauziah (2005). The analysis of data used Spearman Rank test.
Results: The mean scores of the aspects of teachers� motivation in following health education about menarche is at 87.45. The mean score of the aspects of teacher knowledge of menarche is at 86.87. No clear relationship is found between the motivation of teachers with knowledge of menarche (p = 0.162).
Conclusion: No clear relationship is found between the motivation of teachers with knowledge of menarche with knowledge to prepare female students facing menarche in elementary schools of Kecamatan Jetis, Yogyakarta.
