description A fracture is a bone tissue damage caused by trauma from outside the body or caused by a bone disease that results in loss of continuity. Fracture healing process consists of several phases, namely hematoma, proliferation, callus formation, ossification and bone remodeling. Fracture healing can be maximized with bone graft method, one of them with the use of xenografts is generally derived from bovine cortical bone. This study aims to reveal the femur bone histopathology after immobilization with xenograft. Sixteen male rats Rattus norvegicus 3 months of age were divided into 2 treatment groups, each of 8 rats, namely: 1) Group A (control) mice were created fractures and untreated, 2) Group B is made up of fracture mice, fixed with intramedular pins and xenograft. The process of fracture healing in experimental animals based on the results of the femur bone histopathologic examination were analyzed descriptively. Histopathologic analysis of the results showed that the activity of osteoclasts perform bone resorption in a short time, number of osteoblasts increased in a short time, connective tissue is more dense, cartilage tissue density at four weeks postfracture. It shows that fractures treated with the xenograft healed better and faster than without using xenograft.
