Description
Summary:Background: Feeding children of 1 3 years old is important because inadequacy of food intake can result in abnormal growth and cognitive damage. Feeding behavior is parents responsibility to meet the needs of children that is influenced by parents self-efficacy. Self-efficacy is mothers perception to her ability to influence childs behavior and development. Objective: To find out correlation between self-efficacy and parental feeding behavior in children of 1 3 years old. Method: The study was descriptive analytical with cross sectional design undertaken in October December 2012 at Subdistrict of Depok III Sleman Yogyakarta, comprising integrated service post (Posyandu) of Karangmalang, Samirono, and Karang Gayam. Respondents cosisted of 85 people taken through simple random sampling technique. Research instrument was questionnaire of self-efficacy modified from instrument of General Self-Efficacy Scale 12 (GSES-12) and questionnaire of parental feeding behavior modified from instrument of Moore Index of Nutrition Parent (MIN-P). Data analysis used univariate and bivariate method with parametric statistical technique using Pearson product moment correlation. Resultl: Average self-efficacy of parents was 39±4 (IK 95% 38.1 39.8). Average parental feeding behavior was 132.7±15 (IK 95% 129.5 136). There was significant correlation between self-efficacy and parental feeding behavior in children of 1 3 years old. (p = 0.001 and r = 0.356). Conclusion: Better self-efficacy of parents meant better parental feeding behavior in children of 1 3 years at Subdistrict of Depok III Sleman Yogyakarta. Health staff should pay attention to self-efficacy of parents in order to improve feeding behavior, especially in the management of nutrition.
