Description
Summary:Fracture is a bone damage. Many methods have been developed to speed up the healing of fractures, one of which is the use of intramedullar pin. This study was aimed to determine the effect of fracture healing with intramedular pin through changes in the number of osteoblasts. Sixteen 3 months old male white rats strain Sprague dawley with average weight 247 grams, were divided into two groups. Each group has 8 rats. The first group (A) as a control group and the second group (B) as treatment group. Repositioning surgery left femur fracture in whole rat was done after adapted for 1 week. Group B was given intramedullar pin as a tool fixator. Necropsy was performed at 0, 1st, 2nd, and 4th week after surgery. Histopathological observations was done of broken bones to count the number of osteoblasts. A twoway ANOVA test with two factors (time and intramedullar pin) was used to analyze data. Statistical analysis showed that there is significant difference in the amount of osteoblast between Group A and Group B (p<0,05). Based on these result, it can be concluded that the use of intramedullar pin can increase the number of osteoblasts thus accelerate fracture healing of long bones.
