| description | Cockroaches are included in group of insects that are very close to the
human existence. There are 50 species of cockroaches that have been reported to
live around humans. Cockroaches are coprophagic, eating feces either humans or
other animals, and therefore cockroach has a great opportunity to spread the
disease agents. Many kinds of parasites are found in cockroach digestive tract,
particularly nematode worms. The study was conducted to determine the parasites
found in cockroach digestive tract.
This study used 100 samples of cockroaches were taken from Giwangan
Market Yogyakarta. The cockroaches were euthanized by dipped it into detergent
solution. Dissection was done to remove the digestive tract, from the esophagus to
the rectum. Parasite examination was done by opened the digestive tract and
dropped physiological Nacl and observed it with a light microscope.
Results showed some parasites were found in the gastrointestinal tract of
cockroach (Periplaneta Americana) were Leidynema appendiculata with 66.6% of
presentage and Nyctotherus ovalis with 80.5% of presentage. |
