Summary:Diabetes mellitus is one of disease that attacks the dog or cat and can occur at any age. Diagnosis of diabetes mellitus can be confirmed by clinical and laboratory examination of the glucose content in the blood. This study aimed to evaluate the blood glucose levels in cats aged five years or more. The study was conducted by taking blood samples from 25 cats with different breeds and different genders with age � five years. Prior to blood sampling, cats identified his health through clinical examination. Blood samples were collected using a 25 G needle through cephalica vein in aseptic, dropped on strip EasyTouch® GCU then after 10 seconds the blood glucose levels is read on the screen. The data obtained were statistically analyzed by t test. The research found that the average blood glucose levels in cats was 114.72 ± 23.73 (at the time before eating) and 107 ± 21.37 (the time after meals). Based on the results of this study concluded that cat�s blood glucose levels within the normal range. There was no significant difference (P < 0.05) between the cat's blood glucose levels at the time before and after meals.
