description | Carbonated soft drink is a soft drink that have been injected by carbon
dioxide. It consits of 90% water and 10% combination of CO2, flavor, citric acid,
fosforic acid, cafein and minerals. Primary teeth is a first teeth in oral cavity and
will replaced by secondary teeth. Enamel of deciduous teeth is more permeable,
abrasive, and more erosion than permanent enamel. CO2, citric acid, fosforic acid
are known to cause dental erosion. Dental erosion is a condition of calcium ions
release from teeth enamel which can cause the loss of enamel elements and
reduce the hardness of teeth if the proccess continues. The aim of this research is
to know the effect of carbonated soft drink on calcium ions release in primary
teeth.
A quasi experimental study was performed on this research. This research
used carbonated soft drink, artificial saliva and 30 research objects. The first step
was measuring the rate of calcium ions in carbonated soft drink and artificial
saliva before treatment with AAS. After these assessments, the 30 research objects
was soaked in carbonated soft drink and drained with artificial saliva. The rate of
calcium ions in carbonated soft drink and artificial saliva after treatment was
then measured with AAS. The present data were analyzed statistically using
paired samples t-test
The results of samples paired t-test showed p<0.05. It means that theres a
statistically significant difference in release of calcium ions before and after
treatment. The conclusion of this research is that carbonated soft drink is capable
of releasing the calcium ions in primary teeth |
