| description | The milk consumption of Indonesia citizen has always been increasing
every year. However, domestic milk production has not been able to fulfill the
national demand of milk consumption. Due to this reason, the government
attempts to increase the capacity of domestic milk production that hopefully could
fulfill the national demand of milk. Increasing the number of milk product solely
would not be enough without the quality improvement of the product itself. There
are many causative factors that actually could decline the quality of the milk
product. One of those is the increasing number of the somatic cell that could
possibly caused by subclinical mastitis. The aim of this research was to identify
the quality of the milk and to measure the number of somatic cells on milk.
Eighty and 311 samples were randomly taken from dairy farmer of
Koperasi Susu Warga Mulya. 500 mL and 10 mL of each samples was put inside
the test tubes. Milk quality assessment used in this research consisted of the milk
appearance observation and milk composition assessment. The somatic cell of the
10mL sample inside the tube was examined using Breed method. The obtained
data was analyzed using the chi-square method to measure the relationship of the
milk quality and the number of somatic cells.
The result of the milk quality assessment shown that 15% of the samples
are on good quality, 43.75% of the samples are beyond the average level and
41.25% of the samples are on the average level of the milk quality. The minimum
number of the somatic cells is 373.980cells/mL. The highest number of somatic
cells of all samples is 1.024.380cells/mL with an average number of 633.568,9
