Description
Summary:Fibre reinforced composite (FRC) is a material consist of fibre and matrix. The usage of FRC in oral cavity involves the interaction between FRC and saliva which consist most of water. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of immersion on the tensile strength of fibre reinforced composite with polyethylene fibre type. The materials used in this study were UHMWPE fibre (Biodental TechnologiesTM, Australia) and flowable composite (master flow, Brazil). FRC samples were made by using metal mold (15 x 6 x 2) mm and filled by flowable composite and polyethylene fibre. The samples made into 16 pieces, immersed in 200 ml of water for 1 day, 7 days, 14 days, and 21 days length (n= 4 sample). Tensile strength was measured by using a Universal Testing Machine (Litex 660, USA). The results of measurement were analyzed with one way ANOVA followed by LSD test. The mean of tensile strength day 1 was 2,504 ± 0,372 N/mm2 ,day 7 was 1,966 ± 0,193 N/mm2, day 14 was 1,538 ± 0,138 N/mm2, and day 21 was 1,180 ± 0,071 N/mm2 .One way ANOVA result showed that the length of water immersion had an effect toward the tensile strength of FRC (p< 0,05). This study concluded that the length of water immersion had an effect on tensile strength of FRC with polyethylene fibre type.
